I looked at Richter’s book "Windows for Professionals" and was very disappointed ... It was written well and good at business, but it wasn’t for professionals, because I didn’t consider myself one of those, I found only one chapter that I don’t know ( not just interested in). Richter, of course, describes well, but for me help is a quicker way to understand something.
Please objections :)

Do you only think that you know this, or did you really use it in your work?

I can only object to such a statement: It means that I read it badly!
Иван Шихалев (2001-11-06 22:35)
It is that only one chapter I did not use (although I read help), and I own the rest as a cycle
Yes, I just looked and decided that it was not worth buying.

You see, I am not going to discuss your qualifications here, but you are the first person in my life who declares this, but I have seen many ...
three times, from personal experience ... Straustrup writes about C ++ in much the same way as Richter about Windows and at one time I was thinking of buying this book for me or not? For some reason I thought it would be difficult to surprise me in C ++, but I bought the book and realized that I was wrong ...
PS You and Fiber probably worked a lot? Or was it just that chapter that you did not know;)
Иван Шихалев (2001-11-06 23:22)
This is exactly that chapter :)
True, for some reason I am sure that when I need it, I will read the certificate.
And the book is written, of course, excellently, and I would have learned a lot from there (as well as from the SDK), only, IMHO, it is over-praised, which, in fact, is the point.

In the SDK, all this is there, but ... firstly, it is not always possible to find it, secondly, it’s not systematized, attention is not focused on subtle points, etc. etc. but it's up to you to decide whether to buy or not ... it's just strange to hear such an opinion ...

And it was just strange for me to see her after many eulogies. I repeat once again - the book is good, but utterly lauded. Its main advantage is that everything is described correctly and, nevertheless, simple, but in terms of the amount of information it is not worth its price (IMHO, of course).
By the way, to clarify my attitude. With great pleasure I acquired Regular Expressions by J. Friedl - it is very similar in quality and style, but I am a reg. I still haven't used it ...

I did not see Richter:
a) A comprehensive description of security NT in terms of writing software.
b) Descriptions of the system kernel in terms of writing serious utilities and drivers.
c) A unified and consistent description of the objects with which one has to work — so to speak, of the system architecture. And this is just the beginning.
